Setting
The world of Oglaf is a vast one, with many places to explore and things to do. This is by no means an end-all be-all list, and players are encouraged to fool around with the setting, but here are some notable permanent places around the village and the kingdom at large.
Mistress's Castle
By far the most noticeable thing in the area. Mistress's castle is as intimidating as it is vast. Looming on a hill above the village, surrounded by a moat, and constantly protected by highly-skilled guards, you'd better be damned clear about why you're approaching this place unless you fancy taking an arrow to the neck.
There are many different areas in the castle, and each and every one of them are perfect for fucking around in. As long as you have Mistress's permission, that is.
☆Throne Rooms
Good rulers have one throne room. Amazing rulers have a throne room to mach each one of their outfits. Pity the day you should be stuck in an audience with Mistress, for very few people make it out of there alive. These large, intimidating rooms are each decorated with a towering throne, oftentimes with a footrest made out of one or more scantily-clad slaves.
☆Apprentices' Wing
An area of the castle where Mistress's otherworldly Apprentices have been permitted to stay. The rooms are small and bare, containing little more than a bed with scratchy sheets, a wardrobe where they'll find their robes, and the study table on which the contract is placed. The wing is not separated by gender, so men and women will often find themselves rooming right next to each other. There's no rule against moving rooms to stay with a friend or lover, but you'll have to move your bed yourself. Unless you'd rather share.
☆Baths
There are many lavish bathrooms in the palace, some small enough for only one or two people to use, and some filled with numerous hot baths that could fit a whole orgy. If you're lucky, you might be permitted to take a shower: that is to say, you'll be able to stand up while slaves dump buckets of water over your head. It's a very refreshing experience.
☆Dungeons
Underneath the castle are the dungeons. No good ruler can go without! The dungeons double as a torture chamber, and are aptly located right next to the medical ward. If Mistress sticks you down here, try to hope that she doesn't forget about you after a while.
☆Medical Ward
Run by a pair of nursssesss, this is where Apprentices are free to go if they find themselves injured, and where characters will wake up if they manage to get themselves killed. The nurses do have quite a few... curious methods that they use to cure ailments, but most of them are more or less effective.
☆Catacombs
A series of tunnels underneath Mistress's castle and the surrounding village. More often than not, the gates leading to the catacombs are locked, and inside there are flesh-eating ghasts lurking about. There are many different passageways leading to underground chambers and different places in the village, but it's almost impossible to make sense of them even if you have a map. It might be fun to explore if you're the adventurous type - and think of all the cool stuff Mistress must be keeping down there! - but you'd better leave behind a trail of breadcrumbs if you want to find your way out.
☆Libraries
There are many libraries in Mistress's castle, filled with old tomes and enchanted books. There are history books, but most of them only give attention to fights and sieges that Mistress has been directly involved in. Every account ends in her victory.
Aside from that, you might be lucky enough to find a book containing a new spell, or a book that gets a little too "friendly." But be warned: Mistress does not like to hear of an Apprentice teaching themselves new spells without her go-ahead. Try to resist the temptation.
☆Fuck Rooms
They would be called "bedrooms," but very little actual sleeping is done inside these lavish chambers. There are many different places to get it on in the castle, from the big, plush beds with silky sheets, to the small, intimate rooms with doors that actually lock. There's lubricant in every one of these rooms somewhere. However, using them is a privilege granted to the guests Mistress can actually tolerate. Apprentices would do best not to get caught using the rooms unless invited in by a guest.
☆Kitchen
The kitchen is large and heavily-staffed, always stocked with the freshest and most delicious ingredients. For Mistress's consumption, of course. Apprentices may report to the kitchen staff for their meals every day, which are of significantly lower quality. You can make your own food if you'd like, but it's best to make sure you're alone in the kitchen when you do it. The cooks don't take too kindly to people who barge in on their workspace.
Village
The closest village to Mistress's castle. Those who refuse the Apprenticeship would be wise to try and find lodging here. Most of the locals are friendly, and money is easy enough to come by if you're willing to work for it. It sure beats wandering around through the forest, at any rate.
☆Town Square
In the center of the village, there's a large circular field surrounded by a cobblestone road. Most major attractions, such as musical shows and plays, take place on the wooden platform in the center of the field, but on a normal day, it's a wonderful place for picnicking. There are roads stretching out from the circle like spokes on a wheel, leading you to other places in the village. The longest road will take you directly up to Mistress's castle, though there are many steep hills and sharp turns along the way. One would think that Mistress could have made the road less confusing, but she didn't, because fuck you.
☆Housing
There are many inns and lodges for you to stay in if you're in need of a place to call your own. With the influx of newcomers to the village, many of them are even offering special discounts for otherworlders!
If you're on a budget, you might want to look at Inn 'n' Out. They have the lowest rates in town, though it's not in the greatest area. Most of their tenants don't stay for long, primarily because it's very easy for wild animals to get into the rooms through the holes in the ceiling, but hey. You can't beat that price.
For those who've acquired a steady income, there are a couple of nice places dotted around town. There's The Hospitable Horse, run by a nice centaur and his wife. Then there's Armistead's Inn, where the owner is never shy about sharing the tales of his adventuring days with his tenants. And, if you're not of the humanoid persuasion, there's Lot 20, a collection of buildings with rooms that are easily customizable just in case you need a 40-foot doorway, or a tank of water to sleep in.
If you've got a high-paying job or a good stack of gold saved up, you can live in luxury at Lodge Shel'ya. It's more or less a high-end apartment complex, with spacious rooms and cozy furnishings. There's even a butler/maid service if you'd like it (extra costs may apply). Just make sure you've got the cash to back it up, because Shel'ya doesn't like it when you don't pay rent on time. Don't get on her bad side, kiddos.
☆Fuckbakery
The Fuckbakery sells sexual satisfaction in pastry form! Their solo dishes are perfect for a nice night in, but their larger products will make you crave certain sexual acts, so go find yourself someone to hook up with. Friendly employees are always standing outside with free samples, clad in costumes to match the item they're trying to promote (anywhere from leather gear for the horse bukkake carob to pretty bridal gowns for the virginal vanilla sponge).
☆Fucksmith
The Fucksmith specializes in making all your wildest fantasies come true. He owns a wide variety of costumes and props, and has staff standing by to act out whatever sick little thing your heart desires. He only asks that those fantasies not involve real maiming or death, because replacing his staff has become such a hassle. He does have a few amputees now, if that's your thing!
Recently, the Fucksmith has also been trying out a new service: Fuck Deliveries. Send him a request through the mail detailing your preferences, address, and the time slot you're looking for, and a beautiful (or average, or ugly - it's your fantasy) fucksmith employee will show up right at your door!
☆Food & Drink
There are taverns and restaurants aplenty in the village. There are tiny seafood shacks and big steak huts, as well as a selection of specialty places for you to dine in. Take, for instance, Myandra's Mind-and-Dine, where your food is prepared right in front of you hands-free through use of flashy psionics. There's also Jelly Belly, run and staffed entirely by goo girls. They're completely naked by nature, but tempting as it may be, try not to touch them, okay? Your hand might end up getting sucked right in.
☆Brothels
By far the most popular (and cleanest) brothel in town is run by Inalash, an older half-elf woman with years of experience under her belt. Her brothel staffs an equal amount of men and women of all shapes and sizes, though the majority of them are human or elven. Visiting her brothel isn't a taboo experience - in fact, her workers can often be found advertising around the village, stark naked and holding signs pointing you in the right direction.
Inalash isn't one to tolerate foolishness. If your companion of choice consents to what you're doing, then any of your wildest fantasies are fine by her, and she has very open-minded staff. But if you disrespect them, no matter how much money you have to offer, you can expect to find yourself escorted out by a pair of orcs who don't care about petty concerns such as "My spine isn't supposed to bend that way!"
There are other brothels to choose from, but they're much less regulated as far as quality goes. And if non-humans are your thing, there's a cluster of tents set up by the outskirts of the forest housing escorts of all different species. Much less privacy, but much more variety.
☆Marketplace
The marketplace occupies a stretch of road near the town square, where eager vendors set up shop in kiosks and caravans filled to the brim with wares for you to buy. There are a few permanent fixtures from vendors whose tried-and-true products have proven very popular, but for the most part, people come and go as they please.
Get past the crowded street where the novelty vendors set up shop, and you'll reach a field where the stands have more space between them. This is your grocery. Everything from fruits and veggies to fresh-caught fish and meat are sold here, but things that have been imported out of season will cost you a pretty penny.
☆Trap Shop
For the cautious resident, the trap shop is an essential place to visit. Here, you'll find everything from home security (enchanted locks, trap doors, swinging blade hallway kits) to traps on the go (smoke bombs and more). To ensure the customer is satisfied with the quality of the traps, the shopkeeper rigged his store with many obstacles. If you can make it to the register and then out of the shop unscathed, he's sure you'll be very happy with your purchases!
☆Apothecary
In need of a potion? Head on over to the apothecary. In here, you'll find cures to illnesses (common ones are cheap, but the rarer cures will cost you extra), as well as elixirs to satisfy your every whim. There are love potions, hate potions, potions to increase your luck and happiness, and all manner of other useful things. Make sure you know exactly how to use the product before you leave the shop, however, because some side-effects of performing a ritual wrong can be disastrous. And the owner does not give out refunds.
☆>Coliseum
This large stone structure is where many a public spectacle is held. Sporting events, gladitorial fights, and sex tournaments take place here, where the raised seating provides a more comfortable atmosphere than the town square. It's located in a large field a little ways outside of the village. The open space allows vendors to set up shop to hawk off whatever cheesy merchandise they can while the coliseum is in use.
Forest
☆Lake
After a short hike through the forest, you'll find a large lake. The water is crystal clear and beautiful, and home to many creatures, both magical and mundane. Come out for the day and fish, swim, have a picnic, and watch the water sprites dance around on the surface. There is a rumor that a monster lurks beneath the surface, with writhing tentacles that can get more than a little frisky, but that's just the villagers' imaginations running wild. Probably.
☆River
This river, hailing from the distant mountains, flows into the lake. For the most part, it's as normal as any other river you might see - wide here, narrow there, full of little fish that dart away from your toes when you wade through the water. But occasionally something strange will drift down, like an artifact or a piece of clothing. They tend to look exotic. Damn those mountain-dwellers for littering in your river, but at least you might get some cool finds out of it.
☆Caves
Deeper into the forest, where the terrain gets steeper and rockier, you'll start to see openings to caves. Some are small, isolated alcoves, while others open up into great subterranean caverns. They'll provide good shelter for someone survival-savy, but the deeper you go, the more dangerous it gets. Cockbats are easy mode ("cock" is just the noise they make, you pervert). Deeper below, you'll find terrirotial goblins, darkmantles disguised as stalactites, and gelatinous cubes that absorb and digest everything they touch. Maybe even a beholder or two, if one of the gods decide they particularly hate your stupid face.
☆Meadow
Not too far from the edge of the forest, there's a lush meadow filled with beautiful flowers and cute woodland creatures. Here and there, you'll find mushrooms growing in perfect circles - fairy rings, as some call them. The fairies are mischievous things, and often cast a variety of enchantments on the meadow and those who inhabit it. One day you might find that sniffing the flowers changes the language that you speak, and another day you might wander out with blue polka-dots all over your skin.
Just be respectful of their rings. Mess them up or step inside of them, and the fairies' retaliation will not be so innocent. You didn't really need your genitals, did you? Good, because poof, there they go.
☆Grove
Magical creatures can be found anywhere in the village and its surrounding areas, but there's one particular grove of trees that serves as a hotbed for magical activity. You'll know you've reached it when the trees start to grow a light purple moss that seems to sparkle even in low light.
The grove forms a perfect circle, and in the center, there's a group of rocks with flat tops. It's said that the creatures of the forest - fairies, sprites, dryads, dwarves, and a ton of adorable talking animals - get together here for important discussions. Humans are occasionally asked to weigh in, though their opinions are faced with much more scrutiny.
If politics aren't your thing, the area is a beautiful place to relax and get to know all the creatures. It's safe and peaceful for most of the day, but at the witching hour - midnight - it's best to stay away. Dark spirits are drawn to the grove too, and they're not something you'd want to deal with alone.
☆Farmland
Located past the marketplace, there's a stretch of farmland occupying either side of the river that flows into the lake. The farmers live nearby, each of them taking care of a different group of acres. Some are exclusively food farmers, while others take care of livestock, but generally, all of them don't take too kindly to people trespassing on their property. If you don't want a slew of arrows in your butt, it's probably best to admire from a distance.
Elsewhere
The forest eventually grows rougher, leading into mountains that frame the entirety of the area. Mistress's domain stretches out past the mountains, and the world is even larger than her kingdom, but scaling the mountains is a dangerous task.
As time goes on, more and more of the Oglaf world will be opened up for exploration. For now, attempts to flee the area completely will only result in failure, by accident or death or a bunch of Mistress's goons dragging your deserting ass back to the village. But that certainly won't be the case forever! There are a lot of adventures to be had out there, after all. Here's what has been discovered so far!
☆Caelview
A small city located on the other side of the mountains. The residents of this city are all very faithful, though there's no restriction on what faith that may be. There is only one house of worship in the city: a cathedral built into a cave, masked by a waterfall. There is a schedule posted outside to let residents know when their religion's service will be held, and there is a free-for-all period after sunset. B.Y.O.G. - Bring your own god.
The city is about three times as large as the village, and many of its structures stand much taller. Several spires tower above the rest of the buildings, cylindrical and pointed on top, said to be owned by the city's most influential people. Here, houses are bigger, food is more decadent, and new magical advancements are discovered every day. You may have to deal with more preachers accosting you on the street, but that's a small price to pay for such luxury.
Oh, and everything is more expensive. But you weren't expecting anything less, were you?
☆Grasslands
Past the city, grasslands stretch out as far as the eye can see. It's easy to get lost in the ten-foot-tall blades of grass, especially when the land itself has a disorienting effect. Fae and other odd creatures conceal themselves in this land, and strange plants can be found everywhere. Some are non-threatening, if unusal; a talking toadstool, or a tree stump that glows when it's touched. Others have unfortunate effects if eaten or simply smelled, from mushrooms that cause delirium to plant spores that infect you with insatiable lust. It's best to tread carefully.
Characters attempting to bypass the grasslands will end up looping back around to Caelview eventually. The area beyond will be opened up through future events.
☆Rocky Outcropping
Rising from the grasses, a crop of rocks can be found. They frame the entrance to a cave. It looks to have been boarded up at some point, but half of the boards have been torn off. What once read "KEEP OUT, DANGER" now simply reads "KEEP DAN." The caves inside can be navigated to some degree, but it's full of steep drops, and after a point it becomes pitch black. It's more useful for temporary shelter and hiding than anything (or for kinky trysts, if you're a lights-outer type).
About 30 feet down, there is a cavernous drop that impedes further progress. Currently, it cannot be explored without mod permission.
