Player Name: Pengu Character: Thor Odinson Canon: Thor 2: Electric Boogaloo Age: Only a few years older, makes no difference to him. New Canon Point: End of Thor 2. Two years after the original Thor and one year after the Avengers. Summary of events and changes:
The movie begins with Loki taking his lumps and receiving his sentence, then there's an unannounced time-skip in which we see the warriors three and Thor working to control the violence and chaos that has broken out in the nine realms. His father praises him for his efforts and it is clear that he has progressed and developed into a much more responsible and noble man than he had been in the first movie.
However, even with his positive development, he has become far more reserved and perhaps a bit more solemn in his time away from Midgard. It is clear that he pines for Jane and he has grown weary of the space between them and the realm he loves. He checks on her consistently, keeping his distance until Heimdall mentions that she has disappeared from his sight.
It doesn't take long for Thor to retrieve her from Midgard, only to discover that Jane came across a wormhole that lead her into a place thought to be hidden from all. In her accidental travels, she comes across a weapon known as the Aether. It is a tool sought out by the lord of the dark elves, Malekith, and it does not take long for them to approach with the intent of taking what they want.
In the meantime, Odin is incredibly surly with Jane, clearly not pleased with her presence. Thor is protective but somewhat confused by his father's taciturn nature, he leaves Jane in his Mother's care as the Dark Elves breach their defenses from the dungeons. It is uncertain whether he's so quick to seek out the threat out of concern for Loki or because he believes it could be him, but the distraction prevents he or his father from being around when Malekith's henchman Algrim takes her down.
There is not much time for Thor to mourn the loss of his mother, but it takes a toll on all of Asgard. As do the countless lives lost in the attack, which is of great concern to Thor. His father's mind is clouded by grief and in an interesting change of perspectives, it is he who waits for war while Thor would prefer to hold it off as best as he can. His plan is reckless and is quickly dismissed by Odin, so he goes behind his back and schemes in a way that is uncommon for Thor.
He enlists the help of Sif, Heimdall, The Warriors Three and to the dismay of all, Loki in order to free Jane from the watch of Asgardian Guards and head to the home planet of the Dark Elves to draw out Malekith and destroy the Aether. Using their mutual despair over the loss of their Mother, Thor is able to convince Loki to assist him. Their conversation expresses a level of done unknown to mortals. Thor will no longer tolerate Loki's crap as he has in the past. However, even in his steadfast refusal to play games, he and Loki seem to slip easily into the roles of brothers as they banter and bicker all the way to the Dark World.
It would not be Thor and Loki if they did not exchange bitter words, and it comes to a point in which it seems obvious that Loki will betray him. However, it turns out that they had planned to stage a fake betrayal in order to trick Malekith into trusting Loki. This is a level of cunning Thor is not known for adhering to, his admiration for his brother's ability to scheme is apparent. Unfortunately, his affections come too late and Loki dies protecting him. He breaks down his stern demeanor quickly to comfort his dying brother, but he cannot linger to mourn with the Aether now in Malekith's hands.
Finally, Thor and Jane are able to share private moments. They had both been quite swept up in the adventure and Thor had been protecting her relentlessly whilst she was still under the curse of the Aether. It is in their private time that her cellphone somehow manages to find reception and she receives a call. The portal she had come across on earth seems to extend to the dark world and together they use it to make their way there. Jane, under the influence of Malekith and the Aether, had seen that his intentions lead to earth as it is nearly time for the realms to converge which I should have mentioned prior to this.
Thor makes a few snide comments about just who the call was from, clearly a little jealous about it. They return to her home to find Darcy, Erik Selvig and their new intern Ian and together they use science to scheme against Malekith and eventually take him down as the good guys should. There is some distress as Thor abandons Jane again, but there is much to be dealt with at home.
He exchanges words with his father and all of his development until this point is made clear as he refuses the throne he once sought after and requests the chance to return to Midgard. His father begrudgingly accepts, but he is not how he seems! Unfortunately, Thor is too busy smooching the mortal he's pined after for so long to know this. It is clear he feels he belongs on earth for now.
