RULES
☆ You must be over 18 to join. This is a sexy game with sexy aspects and as such we can't allow young'uns.
☆ For your first AC, you must have commented to the taken list with all fields filled out.
☆ Godmoding and fourth walling need to be discussed with other muns involved. This is a game with a flexible environment, so we do allow for some player control over things. HOWEVER it is important that you bring this up with mods and players before acting. If you're ever unsure about anything, just ask!
☆ Do not push your headcanon onto other members of your cast. If it is not canon, please do not force others to act as if it is.
☆ Filling out a permissions post and keeping it in your journal is mandatory, it is also important that you read and respect other people's posts when plotting with them. All permissions posts are listed on the taken page.
☆ Respect boundaries, please. This should be self explanatory.
☆ While we cannot, and don't wish to, police anyone's OOC behavior, an OOC attitude that infringes on the comfort of other players will be dealt with at mod discretion. Disrespecting boundaries, escalating OOC conflicts to a toxic degree, and wanking on others in anoncomms all count under this header. (Note that in the latter case, no warnings or bans will be given based on supposed participation in anon wank. Only solid evidence will warrant mod action.) In conclusion: play nice!
FAQ
OOC INFO:
Do you take OCs or AUs?
We accept OCs, but we do not accept canon OCs or AU characters. This includes game transplants.
Why isn't there a network?
The setting isn't technologically advanced enough to warrant a network. Interaction in game will be entirely face-to-face (or face-to-snout, or face-to-transparent-ghost-face, or face-to-whatever-else)!
How does activity work?
AC is be 10 comments a month, posted by you (as opposed to total comments in one thread). You may use as many threads as you'd like to pass the activity check. If you cannot make activity, you will be given the chance to make it up double within the next month. And the Lizard of Guilt will be there. Guilting.
So, how do hiatuses effect activity?
Characters must be on official hiatus (and indicated on the hiatus post) for at least half of the month the hiatus is taken in to be exempt from activity checks!
Do you allow app challenges?
Yes, we do!
Can I app multiple characters from the same canon?
Because we currently have a cap of 6 characters per canon, in the interest of fairness, we do not allow that at this time.
Am I able to play a character who is under 16?/How do age ups work?
16 is currently our age limit. While we want to be a game open to a wide range of kinks, we feel 16 is the limit of comfort for the majority of players. As for age ups, there will be a suitability section in the app. We don't want characters to be simply physically aged up, we want them to be there mentally too. As such, the suitability section should reflect the changes age will make on your character.
Can I app from Oglaf?
Mistress, the Snow Queen, and the Xoan Ambassador will all remain mod-controlled NPCs because of their plot importance. However, any other recurring characters from the comic can be apped!
How much canon does my character need to be apped?
So long as there is some canon evidence of their motivations and personality, we are happy to accept apps that rely on a lot of headcanon, provided that they give us a good and agreeable sense of the character.
Will you have HMDs?
Yes! HMDs will be monthly and they will be mandatory. In a game like this, it's important that we're able to communicate concerns openly and that all players are able to discuss issues.
SETTING INFO:
Where is my character?
The setting is high fantasy, full of taverns, spellcasters, and magical creatures. Technology is very limited, without any computers or motorized automobiles to be seen. Some areas are rural and others are more urban, but by and large, the world is very medieval.
The main difference between your typical fantasy world and Oglaf-land is the setting's openness toward sex. Concepts like modesty are rare and unusual, so it's normal to see your local street vendor pawning off sex toys, or for the main attraction of the day to be a public sex tournament. You may hear words like "fucksmith" or "cockbat" tossed around without anyone nearby batting an eyelash. Everyone, from the humans to the elves to the gnomes, seem positively focused on sex.
A complete summary of the setting, including details on the Mistress's castle, can be found here.
How is sexual preference treated?
The inhabitants, by and large, hold no biases toward anyone based on their sexuality or gender identity. Things like homophobia are just not in their cultural mindset. While it seems like many residents tend toward bisexuality, hetero- and homosexuality (as well as everything in between) are just as welcome and accepted. Whoever you decide to fuck, you'll be able to do so without fear of being judged. Unless you're into some really freaky shit, that is. Have some pride.
Who is Mistress? Why is she so sexy?
Mistress is one of the most feared people in the entire land. She's an incredibly powerful sorceress, with command of many regions and the brute army strength to make sure it stays that way. Her incredible power and careless attitude toward human life make her a force to be reckoned with. She's ruthless, she's sensual, and she knows how to get what she wants.
She used to train apprentices from her own world, but recently, she's found that she can't count on them, so she's reached out to other universes in hopes she'll find a winner. Thus, the contract.
Where does my character wake up?
They wake up on a stone slab in the middle of a dark room, surrounded by women who seem to have performed a summoning ceremony. One woman, dressed differently than the others, will step forward and present the character with an offer and a contract.
A contract?
Because we would like to keep the setting as sex-positive as possible and steer clear of unavoidable nonconsensual situations, your character will not be forced into the apprenticeship. Rather, it will be entirely voluntary, as they will learn when they arrive.
The high priestess of the ceremony will explain the Mistress's offer, and give your character a contract to read over. The contract will go into great detail about the benefits of magic and living in the castle under the watch of Mistress. However, it will also have a brief and incredibly offputting disclaimer that seems to imply she will have the right to do whatever she pleases with you. How could you ever resist when you could learn such amazing magic?
Your character will be given 24 hours to decide, if they decline then they will be escorted to the village by soldiers. If they accept, they will be escorted off to be branded. Yay! If your character fails to make a decision, then they will be enlisted anyway.
What does an apprentice do?
Detailed information on the day-to-day lives of an apprentice, as well as information on how the spell system works, can be found here.
Is it possible for my character to change their mind after signing a contract?
Yep. Though it's a lot easier to enlist than it is to back out. Signing your character up to be an apprentice simply requires filling out the form on the apprentice page. After signing the contract, your character will be branded, shown to their room, and stripped of any employment or residency they had outside of the castle up until that point in time.
To have a character break off their apprenticeship, they will need to have an audience with Mistress. Leaving will require some sort of difficult trial or bargain that is unique to each character. Terminating the contract could entail surviving a fight with three deadly super-orcs or being banished from the kingdom with no food or clothes. Who knows? If you would like this to happen, you may fill out a form on the apprentice page, and the mods will decide what it is your character must do in order to regain their freedom.
Can my character bring anything from home? What about clothes?
Your character will arrive wearing clothes from the canon point you take them from, and they will find apprentice robes in their wardrobe. They are allowed to bring one item from home, provided it follows the guidelines.
☆The item must be small enough to fit in your character's room. The upper limit would be something around the size of a horse.
☆The item may be a weapon, provided it fits the tech level of the setting. Blunt and bladed weapons are fine, as well as projectiles like crossbows or cannons. Guns and tazers, however, will not be allowed.
☆Modern-day items such as cell phones and laptops will not be allowed.
☆If an article of clothing or an item is in any way enchanted, magically enhanced, or otherwise inhuman, those enhancements will be nerfed upon arrival. They may be restored via regain, however.
☆Pets are allowed, but they will be bound by the same rules as a normal object. Talking animals will be rendered mute, Pokemon will not be able to use their abilities, and the upper limit for size is (again) a horse.
If you're at all unsure as to what will and will not be allowed, please don't hesitate to contact a mod!
How does time work?
The game runs on real time, so 1 day IC is equal to 1 day OOC.
What happens if my character is wounded or ill?
As the character is being summoned, all wounds will be healed and illnesses will be cleared away. Mistress wants her special guests in tip-top shape, after all!
Will my character be able to keep x power?
Initially, any superhuman powers your character has will be nerfed, but they can be regained through event participation.
How do events work?
Events come in two styles: monthly and arc-style. Monthly events will be your usual one-off deals, where something wacky will happen, and it will be reversed by the end of the month. Arc-style events will run several months in a row, and will function through a linear storyline much like Oglaf's plot arcs do. These will be largely player-oriented, with characters exploring, making decisions, and changing the course of the plot. It will not be an overarching good-vs-evil sort of thing, but it will be beneficial to those players who crave an RPG-esque experience.
Is there anything else to do aside from events?
Yes! At random, minor quests and open logs will be posted, for those who want a quick quest or a new way to make CR. Perhaps an old man wants you to get his antique sword back from the lair of a wolfbear, or a sorcerer's familiar has disguised itself and must be found. They will be NPC'd, and those who participate will receive IC rewards.
My character doesn't have any canon powers to regain, and they wouldn't sign up for the apprenticeship. Is there any other way for them to learn magic?
There sure is! In the world of Oglaf, many gods and goddesses are worshipped, and most of them are real. They have a wide range of personalities and doctrines, and if your character decides to become a follower of a certain religion, they will reap the benefits of earning a deity's favor. Every deity has tasks that they would like their followers to complete, from the mundane to the damn near impossible. A character who does what their deity asks of them will be able to earn special rewards, including power, wealth, and magical abilities.
For complete information on the religion mechanic as well as a summary of all deities available to be worshipped, look here.
Do I need to read Oglaf to play in this game?
The style of the game is very closely based on the Oglaf webcomic, featuring throwbacks, a lighthearted style, and characters featured in the strips. You may feel a bit lost or confused if you haven't read it before, particularly if you're expecting a fantasy setting of a more serious tone. If you would like to join the game without reading it, you're free to, but giving it a quick once-over would certainly help!
Can my characters talk to NPCs?
Absolutely! The setting is MADE for some NPC interaction. Minor NPCs can be controlled by players as often as you'd like, but if you want to interact with a major NPC, or if you want one to pop in on a thread, you can request an encounter on the NPC page. Remember that the mods may not be able to drop everything and whip your character passionately, so please be patient.
Can my character die?
They can be killed but they will be revived. They will awaken after two days in the lower floors of the castle with the spooky nurses.
Can I app a non-humanoid character?
Absolutely, you kinky devil. You're free to keep them in their original forms or have them humanized. Large characters will be sized down to 10 feet or under (their exact new height will be left up to player discretion). In the event that your character is mechanical, their bodies will now run on magic instead of electricity or any other power source. Any built-in weapons in their bodies will be disabled.
My character is a humanoid, but they aren't human and have no canon genitalia. How should I handle this?
We would like to allow for creative freedom in cases like this, so there is a section in the app where you can detail your character's junk if it's different from the norm.
In the event that two muns play characters from the same canon, but each of them has a different headcanon for that race's genitalia, leeway is allowed. Mistress doesn't always pluck characters from the same universe, and there are many different worlds out there. It's entirely feasible for one character to be from a universe that's exactly the same as another's, with the only difference being the appearance of their naughty bits. Hey, who's looking?
We do ask that you remain respectful of all players' headcanons, and in the event that disagreements are had, please try to work it out peacefully between yourselves. While you may be ecstatic to play out an "Oh my god, what is that thing between your legs?" thread, someone else might not, so try to keep that in mind. OOC communication is key!
How does money work here?
Currency consists of gold, silver, and bronze coins, though the bartering system is still very popular. Characters with a useful skill (sexual or otherwise) could conceivably earn shelter and food without having to use physical money for it. Otherwise, they're free to get a job wherever they would like. Details about the types of businesses in each town can be found on the setting page.
Employment is not moderated, and we trust players to be reasonable with the wealth they give their character. Owning small businesses is encouraged and welcomed, but owning half the town and turning residential areas into Ye Olde Super Wal Marts is not something that should be casually handwaved.
What happens if I drop/hiatus?
If you drop, it's as if your character simply vanished. They will take back any possessions they regained from their world, but anything of the Oglaf world will remain there.
If you're hiatusing, you may take your pick of many options. They can be lost in the forest, kidnapped by dwarves, imprisoned by Mistress or they can be in a coma in their room/home/the infirmary with the nurses.
Remember: IF ANYTHING CONFUSES YOU, TALK TO A MOD, SUGAR PLUMS. ♡
